In Memory of

On March 6, 2016, at the age of 23 Amanda Mattos Sharp left us to join her heavenly father. Amanda had a larger than life personality. She was fearless, spontaneous, outgoing, fun and a loving girl with a big heart. Amanda would admit she was stubborn and hard headed but that was who she was, she would say. She loved to read and write poetry and stories. She had the best laugh with eyes that danced when she laughed. On March 6, 2016, at the age of 23 Amanda Mattos Sharp left us to join her heavenly father. Amanda had a larger than life personality. She was fearless, spontaneous, outgoing, fun and a loving girl with a big heart. Amanda would admit she was stubborn and hard headed but that was who she was, she would say. She loved to read and write poetry and stories. She had the best laugh with eyes that danced when she laughed. Amanda had such creativity in everything she did from marketing her dad's business to coloring with Aarilyn. She loved animals especially Lola and Harlie. Amanda would give you anything she had even when she had nothing. She felt compelled to help others. She loved her daughter more than so many could ever understand. 

There were many great accomplishments Amanda achieved. She graduated from Bryson High School in Texas, studied at Boston Reed College, and held a CNA license. She played basketball most of her young life and had many great coaches she loved. While living in Texas, she played basketball, softball, and other sports. She participated in FFA. She loved horseback riding and felt the freest on the back of her aunt's horse Smoke. Their bond was touching.

Amanda left us all too soon; she knew there were so many out there that loved her. She had friends from Kings River and friends in Texas whom she loved so much and was hoping to see again soon. Amanda made friends with several others through her short life. Amanda never knew a stranger; many of you shared kind and supporting words with her when your paths crossed. She felt your love.

Amanda’s Home is designed to help women no matter what age or circumstances who need a safe and secure place to find refuge and resources to help start over. Women will be able to have their children with them as they gain support with medical needs and any mental or substance abuse needs.  The program will also offer help with life skills, financial help, permanent housing, employment, and education. We look to add partners in the community to help mentor and support. This house is an extension of Champions nonprofit treatment agency in Hanford. 

This house was supported through the friends and family who loved Amanda dearly as well as community members who saw the need and wanted to help.  It is a reflection of Amanda’s desire to always help anyone even when she had nothing. 

I feel humble and honored that this home was named after my daughter, Amanda.  And one day I will bring her daughter to the home to see the work of so many who were once touched by her mom.
