POSITION SUMMARY

SUD Clinician (LPHA) will provide direct SUD services to patient population as needed. SUD clinician will report to Clinical Director and receive supervision from a licensed clinician of the Agency. SUD clinician’s primary responsibility is to verify medical necessity of patients utilizing DSM -V criteria for Substance Use Disorder. Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, homelessness, and other potential barriers to economic and social self-sufficiency. Clinical Supervision towards licensure may be available for AMFT, APCC, and ACSW level clinicians. Successful candidates must possess a clinical license or a counselor certification, have experience providing supervision, and must have a background in Drug Medi-Cal and the California Department of Health Care Services regulations and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Verifies medical necessity for the treatment of SUD

  • Assess clients for the presence of SUD and/or mental health diagnosis

  • Interfaces with all levels of management, staff, clients, residents and families including partner agencies

  • Creates individualized treatment plan and discharges

  • Collaborates with Program Manager to ensure program offers individuals served increasing opportunities for employment, social integration and independent living

  • Monitors progress on patient treatment plan

  • Facilitates individual and group counseling sessions

  • Participates in the program evaluation process, utilizing results to identify needs, establish goals and directions for future planning

  • Provides safe, effective and efficient implementation of direct care in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care; provides direct services to clients, families and clients’ community supports

  • Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with persons served

  • Provides case management and care coordination services

  • Attends weekly clinical supervision sessions

  • Completes all services and documentation within agency policy timeframes

  • Completes required annual training hours

  • Assures that clients know and understand their legal status and rights

  • Provides weekend/on-call service/back-up and crisis intervention

  • Assists with Service Coordination Plan, including: (1) Making appropriate referrals for placement, case management and aftercare services, as assigned; (2) Coordinating with the Office Coordinator to assure that client benefits and finance are in order, as assigned, (3) Developing and maintaining an awareness of community resources

  • Acts as Custodian of Records; determining best practices re confidentiality etc.

  • Must evade members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training

  • Provides signatures on indicated documents requiring LPHA approval

  • Participates in case review conferences and peer reviews

  • Participates in Agency/Program performance and quality assurance projects

  • Adheres to safety protocols

  • Performs other clinical duties upon request

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field and working towards licensure and registered with the Board of Behavioral Science.

  • Drug & Alcohol Certification from a State of California Accredited Institution or MFTi/MFT/LCSW (must be registered with Board of Behavioral Science (BBS))

  • Minimum two years’ experience working in residential treatment programs.

  • Valid California driver’s license and insurable driving record. (If the position requires driving, valid driver’s license, a motor vehicle clearance, and proof of auto insurance is required at time of employment and must be maintained throughout employment.)

  • All opportunities at Champions are contingent upon successful completion and receipt of acceptable results of the applicable post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearances (Live scan fingerprinting clearance for FBI, DOJ and CAI), excluded party sanctions, and degree or license verification.   • Must be CPR and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment

  • Certifications in Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavior Therapy

  • Health screening clearance

  • Demonstrates ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have the visual, physical and technical ability to independently operate a variety of office equipment including the use of a computer. Will also require bending, stooping, filing, lifting of at least 25 lbs. or more and able to interrupt physical altercations. Ability to verbally communicate well with others.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Services may involve travel to offsite locations for assessments, service provision, and crisis management.

ANTICIPATED HOURS

This position may include working non-traditional business hours, swing or graveyard shifts and/or weekends, all varying shifts.
